Starting to Draw? Two Amazing Things to Practice before you Start Drawing - PART 2

New to Drawing? Before you start drawing there are three things you need to understand. I'm here to explain them and once you practice them your drawings will be wonderful. This is the third of my art tutorials on starting to draw for absolute beginners. In this video I look at three things you need to know; hatching, tone and line. We start with a simple outline of a tree against a background of a river and trees on a bank in the distance. The trees in the distance are hatched and cross hatched with an HB pencil so the tone is quite light. The river is drawn with horizontal, overlapping lines which get wider as the come closer. The foreground tree is drawn using line and an 8B pencil. The tone of the line is much darker and therefore creates depth in the drawing. I show how by overlapping the line I can make the tree appear rounded. This also gives the oak tree character. This video is aimed at beginners, students and anyone else wanting to improve their drawing skills and learn to draw. I'll show you everything you need to know in simple easy to follow steps. This is the fourth of my art tutorials on starting to draw for absolute beginners. In this video I am going to bring together all the elements covered in the previous three easy drawing tutorials; curves, lines, tone, shading, creating depth and using the pencil. I am drawing three paint brushes in a pot each one drawn with a different pencil, HB, 2B and 8B. The drawing is a still life drawing. This method helps to create different tones and therefore creates depth in the drawing, because darker lines look closer than lighter lines. Lines, curves (plus a link to understanding eye level) tone and shading are also covered to create a three-dimensional drawing. This technique is ideal for still life drawing but can be applied to any type of drawing. Drawing what you see is great, but if you want to be a great artist you have to train your visual memory. What is is and how you do it is explained in the video. Beginners improve your drawing skills. This is the fifth of my art tutorials on Starting to Draw for Absolute Beginners. In this video I am going to concentrate of the idea of training our visual memory. The idea is to look at an object for about 10 seconds and to memorise its shapes, lines and tone – not the detail. Once you have memorised the object, you simply draw the visual image locked in your memory. Don’t try to draw a detailed realist drawing, sketch the image quickly capturing the essence of the object. The more you do this the more you will train your visual memory. Your ideas will improve along with your drawing. Carry a sketchbook with you and train your visual memory wherever you are. If you are in an airport, look at a person, memorise them, then draw the visualisation in your brain. You’ll be amazed at how much your drawing will improve with constant practice. In this easy graphite drawing tutorial about landscape drawing, I'll explain how, by using the edge of the graphite stick, you can create wonderfully imaginative marks on cartridge paper. By twisting the graphite stick on its edge really creative lines can be created. If you are learning to draw or want to expand your drawing techniques, you should get hold of some graphite, because it’s brilliant. The tutorial starts by demonstrating the type of marks that can be made with the graphite stick. By twisting your wrist and varying the pressure you apply to the graphite stick, wonderful marks and lines can be created.
