Do you struggle to think fast and speak smart? In other words, do you find it hard to think fast and speak clearly in work conversations? This can happen if you're stressed or nervous, if you have disorganised thoughts, or if what you want to say is too complicated.

When these things happen in work conversations and you can't think fast or speak smart (intelligently), it can damage your credibility and therefore your career progression.

You see the only way people can know how intelligent or competent you are is through your communication. The way you explain complicated concepts. The way you organise your thoughts. And the vocabulary you use too. All of these things are clues for the other person as to how intelligent or competent you are.

When you struggle to find the right words or when you can't get your thoughts clear in your mind, you miss the opportunity to show you're a competence and intelligent leader. This can result in you not having your ideas heard, not having your work recognised, and you not reaching your true potential.

Do you want to keep people interested in what you're saying? Perhaps during casual conversations or business meetings you detect that people are tuning out and not listening to you. Maybe it's when you're in the middle of explaining an important point and you know that you're losing impact. The ability to keep people interested when you speak is a critical skill that emerging leaders and future public speakers need to learn.

In this video, you will walk away with seven intriguing connectors that you can use to keep people interested in what you're saying. I explain the usage of each connector and give examples that you can follow. Throughout the video you will also see me using some of these connectors as I speak to you so you can see them used in normal conversation. When you want to speak like a leader, you need to be in command of our voice. This means that you need to speak with confidence and authority while you freely express your thoughts, ideas and opinions. Being in command of your voice is about saying what you think and speaking your mind regardless of whether others will agree with you or not.

For many people, we censor our own speech so that we "fit it" or we don't "rock the boat". We suppress our thoughts, opinions and ideas because we're scared others won't agree with us. But when you do this, you're not being in command of your voice. And you're certainly not speaking like a leader.

Think about it. Leaders are hired for their unique perspectives or innovative ideas. If you're not in command of your voice, if you suppress your thoughts and ideas in meetings, you'll look exactly like everyone else. You won't stand out as an independent thinker. You won't stand out as someone with leadership potential.

And this creates anxiety in you. Sometimes, it's because you're not using confident body language. Other times it's because past experience with people has trained you to not be confident when you speak.

When you want to disagree respectfully with someone more powerful than you (like your boss!), there is a specific structure you want to follow. You should avoid getting aggressive, using personalised attacks or becoming emotional. These tactics won't work with people more powerful than you, like senior leaders or executives. If you want to disagree with your boss or voice a dissent with a superior at work, it needs to be done with respect. Respect for that person, their views and their position in the company.

Direct vs Indirect Communication / In the workplace, there are different communication styles that you need to deal with. Some people communicate in a more direct way and could come across as abrupt. While others communicate in an indirect way and can’t seem to get straight to the point. No one style is right. No one style is wrong. They're just different ways of communicating in the workplace.

The problem happens when you come from one particular communication style (direct or indirect) and you're talking with someone from the other communication style (direct or indirect). For example, if you're an indirect communicator and you're talking with someone who is direct, or if you're a direct communicator and you're talking with someone who is indirect. When direct and indirect communication styles mix, this is where misunderstanding and miscommunication can happen.

Understanding more about your communication style and the other communication style can help bridge any communication gaps, and help you communicate more effectively in the workplace. In this video, I explain what direct vs indirect communication is, provide examples of each style, as well as tips (through story) on how to deal with each communication style.

When you're aiming for confident communication at work, there is a specific phrase that you shouldn't use. Do you have a jealous coworker? Do you want to know how to deal with jealous coworkers? Jealous coworkers can make your work life difficult. Their anger, contact put downs and passive aggressive behaviour can really make you dread coming into work!

Most people ignore jealous coworkers and their toxic comments. It feels easier to do rather than directly addressing the issue. But from my experience, this only exacerbates the issue and encourages them to continue to be toxic towards you.

In order to deal with jealous coworkers, you have to understand them to disarm them. And that's what this video will help you do. I first go through how to understand this jealous coworkers and work out "why" they're giving you a hard time. Then I tell you what you can say to that jealous coworker so they'll stop giving you a hard time in the future.

Do you want to expand your vocabulary so you can improve your speaking? Learning new vocabulary and memorizing that new vocabulary is an important part of improving your communication. When you use the same words all the time, your communication gets stale and doesn't have as much impact as it could.

With simple techniques to learn new words, learn new vocabulary and expand your vocabulary range, you can quickly improve your speaking at work. However there is a process that you need to follow: you should first find new vocabulary, record that new vocabulary, memorise the new vocabulary and use the new vocabulary. This is a very simple process that I go into in this video. I talk about how to do that with traditional notebooks as well as modern apps.

And if you commit to this process, you will have successfully expanded your vocabulary and memorized that vocabulary so you can improve your speaking.

95% of leaders don't communicate effectively because they fail to include this one important element in their communication. How do you communicate effectively with executives? Are there any secrets to communicating successfully with executives? It's true that communicating with executives is different to how you would communicate with your coworkers. There's a different energy in the room. They think on a deeper level. The way they speak and communicate requires a different style of communication. If you speak using this style, you'll be successful in communicating with executives. Do you want to successfully jump into chaotic group conversations? Maybe in your weekly meetings, you can't get a word in at all! Or maybe when you're with your friends, everybody is so busy talking, there's no space for you to talk. You probably walk away from those situations feeling ignored and rejected. Right?

Clear, concise speech is something that we can all learn and there are a number of techniques I've used to help me speak with more clarity. These techniques helped me get my point across, establish credibility at work and get others to understand what I'm saying. All of these things are incredibly important in the corporate world.

For many years I wanted to be clear and concise when I spoke. I felt that I was jumping around from thought to thought and my communication was jumbled. After working with emerging leaders for a number of years, I've learned that this is a common and widespread problem. This led me to invest time in understanding how to speak with more clarity and how to be concise when we speak. I've managed to achieve this myself, help others achieve it, and how I'm sharing some of my strategies with you.

It's not easy to stop people interrupting you in conversation. If you're more of a passive communicator, it can be challenging and daunting to try to claim your talking space and stop people interrupting you. But if you want to get your voice heard, whether it's in chaotic meetings at work or casual conversations with a group of friends, you need to learn how to stop people talking over you.

It might sound difficult to do, but when you use the techniques that I share in this video, it can make the process much, much easier. And don't worry, they won't make you look aggressive at all. They will simply allow you to get the space you need to be present in the conversation. And to "condition" people to know that they can't interrupt you in the future. Let's put an end to the frustration that you feel when people interrupt you.

When you're a first time manager, it can be difficult to get your team to speak up in meetings. Due to fear of being negatively judged, they might sit silently in the meeting and refuse to freely share their ideas, thoughts and opinions - even when you ask them to do so! As a professional, do you lack confidence in your ideas? Do you want to get confidence in your ideas so you can finally share your ideas in meetings? I've been asked by experienced leaders how they can overcome this block. How can they be confident in their ideas so they can share them with confidence? It seems this is a common dilemma in the workplace so I decided to create this video to tackle this issue.

I'm going to share a 4-step process to help you build confidence in your ideas so you can share them with others.

At the end of the day, people need to know what your ideas are. This is how you build visibility, gain recognition for your contribution and position yourself for pay rises and promotions! You need to stop holding your ideas back and keeping them to yourself. You need to let them out and help others know and understand what your ideas are. It doesn't help your future career if you keep your ideas to yourself. So focus on your ultimate career goals and try to overcome the block that is holding you back.

Do you tell yourself these foolish lies that stop you being assertive? It's incredibly common to talk yourself out of being assertive. But being more assertive is incredibly important in your personal life and your business life. You don't want people to walk all over you. You should be able to speak up and stand up for yourself when you need to. And when you can be more assertive in your communication, this is exactly what you can achieve.

In this video, I share four common lies that we tell ourselves that stop us being assertive when we need to. These lies can fool you into believing that it's not necessary for you to be assertive in your communication. They help you make excuses as to why you don't need to be more assertive.

I hope that when you learn these lies, it will remove your assertiveness blocks and push you to be more assertive at work and at home.
